The plot of this novel captivated me immediately as it was very interesting and intriguing and had me sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to read more! The main character is well developed but the sub characters were less developed. Usually in a novel this would make a difference but this didn’t change anything in this novel as it remained mind gripping and interesting with its tightly constructed plot. A definite page turner!
Billy Wiles is the main character in the novel and who tragedy seems to follow. He seems to be an easygoing character who works hard for his money, he goes through life sad and lonely as depicted in the way he lives. His parents died when he was fourteen which left him orphaned. Wiles has a fiancée, Barbara who is in comatose state in a nursing home and has been given little hope of recovering, yet Wiles remains faithful and committed.
Wiles life changes when he receives a note on his windscreen telling him to make a very life altering decision, not only for him but for the people who are involved. The note gives him a very unusual ultimatum which he has six hours in which to decide what to do. Either he does not take the note to the police and a blonde school teacher will be murdered or if he does then an elderly woman who’s active in charity work will instead be murdered.
I could not stop reading this novel as it was original and the plot captivated me immediately. This is a fast paced read and puts a new spin to good and evil. Dean Koontz really out did himself with this novel, this without doubt one of his best storytelling books.
