Velocity book review: Dean Koontz

The plot of this novel captivated me immediately as it was very interesting and intriguing and had me sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to read more! The main character is well developed but the sub characters were less developed. Usually in a novel this would make a difference but this didn’t change anything in this novel as it remained mind gripping and interesting with its tightly constructed plot. A definite page turner!

Billy Wiles is the main character in the novel and who tragedy seems to follow. He seems to be an easygoing character who works hard for his money, he goes through life sad and lonely as depicted in the way he lives. His parents died when he was fourteen which left him orphaned. Wiles has a fiancée, Barbara who is in comatose state in a nursing home and has been given little hope of recovering, yet Wiles remains faithful and committed.
Wiles life changes when he receives a note on his windscreen telling him to make a very life altering decision, not only for him but for the people who are involved. The note gives him a very unusual ultimatum which he has six hours in which to decide what to do. Either he does not take the note to the police and a blonde school teacher will be murdered or if he does then an elderly woman who’s active in charity work will instead be murdered.

I could not stop reading this novel as it was original and the plot captivated me immediately. This is a fast paced read and puts a new spin to good and evil. Dean Koontz really out did himself with this novel, this without doubt one of his best storytelling books.

How to chill out with Lungelwa

Lungelwa, a Journalism student, studying at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, is 21 living in Khayelitsha with her sister, 31 and cousin. Her mom passed away when she was ten years old.
One would think that a 21 year old student  would be partying up a storm, painting the town red, but you are mistaken if you catagorise Lungelwa this way. This 21 year old spends most of her time at home watching TV and going to church, as God is of high importance in her life. Lungelwa has never been clubbing before, and has never dated a boy either. She doesn’t find any interest in this type of lifestyle.
Lungelwa does a lot of window shopping searching for the perfect item to purchase. She doesn’t enjoy the fast life, but the essence of life and being with family, bonding.
Lungelwa is a Born Again Christian; she enjoys singing at church, but would never take it up as a career as she admits “I can’t sing to save my life!” Lungelwa also admits that she hasn’t danced before in big crowds but only to gospel music. She is an introvert, isn’t attention seeking and keeps to herself.
Lungelwa enjoys Gospel concerts, because they uplift her spirits, and is attending a gospel concert featuring the best selling gospel group called Ncandweni, in Khayelitsha on 28 May 2011.
Lungelwa also known as Lungi, states that she doesn’t have enough time to watch as many movies as she’d like to, as she finds interest in movies. Her favourite movie is, The Diary of a Mad Black Woman. She enjoys Tyler Perrys’ movies.

The Standoff book Review

This book is for lovers of the thrill of life. Anything and everything that can go wrong, will go wrong, a typical Murphy’s Law novel.
In this novel, chaos reigns. This story concentrates on the action taking place without much character build up. We aren't made aware of what is going on in the character's thoughts. “The Standoff” is more like a very lengthy newspaper report than a novel.

"The Standoff," the first novel by Chuck Hogan, describes the complexities of crime scenes, negotiating and the intense feelings of anti government feelings that exist in some areas of rural America. It seems as if the author is looking on as an outside observer to present legal aspects to the decisions that the law enforcement officials make at the time of crisis.
I’m not one for this type of fiction, yet Hogans style of writing made this an easy read yet extremely mind gripping. “The Standoff” is definitely under the list of good reads.

First blog :)

I haven't blogged before, so this is my first time.
I'm not really one to put thoughts to paper, but I enjoy factual writing.

Let me share a little about myself and my life.
I am the youngest of three children, as many call it the "laatlammetjie" as my sister is twelve years my senior. We lost our father 7 years ago to a cardiac arrest which devastated my whole family. My sister gave birth to her first baby last week Tuesday. I am an aunt to three little boys who are my bundles of joy:)

I enjoy playing hockey, swimming, gyming and taking walks on the beach. i love dancing and singing, and I used to model. I would really love to get back into that industry as i enjoy the lime light and getting dressed up.

I am a first year Journalist student. I am really enjoying my course and I am extremely chuffed at myself for getting into this course as it is a very difficult course to get in to. I aspire to become an A list journalist, covering stories that will encourage and help people.

This blog may not be the greatest, but it is my first attempt. The next blogs are sure to show my development in the Journalism field.
